Illegal operation message

The application I have written is running on an NT server with XP and 98 machines on it. Only on the 98 machines do I get an illegal operation message.
In the app, I create a temporary file with a relation to a customer masterfile.
I go through and build the records in this file (for only one customer at a
time) and display them on a grid (parent file is the customer file).

This seems to work okay, until I print an unrelated report, and then go to this routine.

The message appears after I append a blank record and try to replace the
customer id with the ID I'm building the file for. I take the set relation to
command out and it runs fine.

I'm wondering is this some weird printer issue or is my logic faulty, setting a relationship in a file that is being displayed on a grid where the parent child relationship is already specified.

Any help or enlightenment would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brad Trim
