>George, I think you're missing what he is getting at. If you open Windows Explorer, and right click on a file with a .txt extension (for example), there is a menu item 'Open With' that shows a right arrow indicating a further menu. When you choose this, a menu drops down giving a list of choices of apps to use to open that .txt file. In my case, for instance, it gives me a list containing UltraEdit 32, Visual Foxpro, Notepad, Internet Explorer, and Visual Studio .Net.

Alan,
I think you're right. What I've noticed is that if you open, say, a text file from within VFP it appears in the recent documents folder (Win2K). Further, I've noted that with both Win2K and XP, when you open a file with a type that doesn't initially appear on the "Open With" list, that application is added the next time you access the same file type.
Checking the shortcuts in the Recent folder doesn't indicate what application opened the file, and there doesn't
appear to be anything in the registry.
So I guess it's "Darned if I know" for me too.< s >
