Hi jay,

>Yeah, though a publisher technically "publishes" the book, I truly believe that since Tamar is an author that her comment was written from that point of view. Plus, I've got to say that it is even more an issue to the publisher than the author that the book makes money. The author may be a writer, but the publisher is definately trying to make a profit. Either way, whether Walter wishes to contribute to the profit of the publisher or the ego of the author is entirely his choice.

Well, it just more like, why should I pay for something I don't need ?

Walter,

>>Hi Jay,
>>
>>If I don't remember wrong from my english classes in school, an author is a writer? Tamar did not mention herself or other writers, but spoke for the publishers' point of view, as far as I understood. There is a huuuuge difference!
>>
>>But if 'author' is synonymous to 'publisher', I ask you to please disregard my last comment.
>>
>>>Hey Tore,
>>>
>>>Understand that my comment was in direct reply to Tamars "...it's people like you who make it unprofitable to publish VFP books." If authors aren't in it for the money then her comment makes no sense.
>>>

>>>>Hi Jay,

>>>>Sorry for jumping in. If you think ANY Foxpro author writes for the money, I can assure you that you are wrong. The pay is very low, so all the Foxpro authors write either because they are true enthusiasts, or they write to get their name known. All writers I have talked to, and that is most of them, writes for the first reason. If the money was their motive, they would earn money sitting on a sidewalk wearing filthy clothes with a metal can in from of them.
>>>>
>>>>>>>I personally never did buy any VFP book myself, never subscribed to a VFP magazine, never visited a conference, yet I do regard myself as a reasonable VFP developer.
>>>>>>
>>>>>>
>>>>>>And, to some extent, then, it's people like you who make it unprofitable to publish VFP books. Do you really believe that you wouldn't have gotten US$50 value from, say, KiloFox? How much would you have to learn from a book to have it pay for itself?

>>>>>I personally do not work to make it profitable for authors to publish. Your comments seem to be an admonishment for not buying books. You publish and hope that they are purchased, but we do not need to purchase them. There is nothing wrong with the way Walter chooses to exists as a developer. His choice, not yours.
