Are you sure wisdom is not somewhere in between here? Copy and paste programming is also much more effective in terms of development time, and finally acceptable in situations where the probability of reuse are low, and face it, in the real world this is these are the majority.

The bottom line here is where do you draw the line. How much conceptualization is too much conceptualization.
