Many of the security issues go right down to the core. There are major changes coming in Longhorn.

- Win32 API is going into maintenance mode
- New UI and a new way to work with the AI
- .NET support built in .. in fact, many new features will require .NET
- New, optional file system
- Software services (Ingido)

and many others. Longhorn is still a few years away, but test versions have already been publically released.
