I don't know the particulars for Pinnacle, but I do note that your discussion omitted any costs for the people who actually take the content and produce decent magazines from it. That includes copy editors, layout people, printers, etc.
For FoxPro Advisor, you can add an art department.
For books, add an indexer.
A lot of people work on the things you read before they reach you hands. In fact, to me, one of the big differences between a real magazine and an imitation of a magazein (I'm not referring to any particular publication here) is in the "fit and finish" work--editing, layout, etc.
