Need help with some Windows Script Host commands, namely the AddPrinterConnection and AddWindowsPrinterConnection methods.

We're migrating a FOXDOS app to VFP 6.0 and the user is very insistant on keeping one aspect of the program intact. Namely, he does NOT want printers (and printer drivers) installed on the machines for security reasons. In the old DOS version, they sent text-based files to a print queue that was set up "on the fly".

Now, the customers are all upgrading to Windows XP and these old DOS-based applications won't print anymore. We have convinced the user we need to go to VFP, but we hit a wall. Windows XP (et al) requires a printer (or at least the printer DRIVERS) be installed on the machine. When we use the WSCRIPT commands to add a queue, we have encountered several kinds of errors...but if we have the queue defined via CONTROL PANEL | PRINTERS | ADD NEW PRINTER then everything is fine.

We've tried to explain to the user that the new XP boxes will have to be set up with the printers, but they are really REALLY hesitant to do that.

So, bottom-line...is there something I'm missing with the AddPrinter or AddWindowsPrinter commands that could get me outta this? Is there ANY way to create/attach/use/remove a print queue when you don't know (or don't wanna know) the printer type attached to it?

I've read the WSH series that George Tasker did for VFUG which helped sell the idea, but it doesn't answer these questions....any help anyone???
