This may be a shot in the dark, but here goes. Do you have the following files in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory:
MFC40.DLL
MSVCRT40.DLL
OLEAUT32.DLL
Also, what is the size of your MSVCRT40.DLL file?
You may want to also try re-registering the following files:
MFC40.DLL
FOXHWND.OCX
To re-register use the REGSVR32.EXE command from your Start, Run:
regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system\mfc40.dll
regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system\foxhwnd.ocx
These are the things I would probably do as a process of elimination.
