Gosh - am I really replying to myself ?
Here's a copy of what I put up on prolinux today:
*--
LAMP - Linux / Apache / mySql / php
WAMP - Windows / Apache / mySql / php
[Windows Only RoadMap]
So if I were to start from scratch with a WAMP distro that works well
together from a small amount of pointing and clicking - I would use the
stuff from FoxServ -
see
http://www.foxserv.net for more info .
Then I extracted the XRMS package with WinRar [see
http://www.rarlab.com/ ]
, edited the php stuff in my favorite editor Ace Html Pro
[see
http://www.visicommedia.com/acehtml/ for more info].
Then load up my favorite [no holy wars today, your stuff works for you]
mySql admin package -
mySqlFront - which looks/feels like the Enterprise Manager Package from
MicroSoft for MS-SQL Version 6.5, avail for download at
http://www.mysqlfront.de . There is a newer version out recently - I had
been using 2.5 for ages and it would barf on a few things. Version 3.0
doesn't barf on the same sql code that 2.5 would barf on.
I then loaded up the sql scripts in mySqlFront to create the XRMS database.
It created the tables and filled the space with some data.
Finally - I copied the xrms file collection (with my edits) into a new root
off of my apache www server, then launched FoxServ.
In FoxServ - I launched mySql, then Apache, then tested out
http://localhost/xrms
and found some issue with an include file. [was missing the right in top line].
so I fixed the file with Ace Html Pro and tried again.
Ah ah - now worky worky .. yee haaaa..
Then I took a test database from TeleMagic [with about 22K of customer
records]
and wrote up a quick data transfer/field mapping app in Visual FoxPro to
load the mySql database for XRMS with the Company information.
WOW.
[end of Windows RoadMap]
I then repeated the same concepts in/for my linux boxen with the modified
php XRMS scripts loaded up .. Then loaded the mySql XRMS table for Companies
again with my VFP app.
WOW ..
I then repeated it all to a webhosting service that has my webspace [all
linux there]
WOW...
So now I have something that my salesreps can use.
WOW...
[Whats Next]
Now to move forward with the fax /email gateway integration with faxaway -
so my reps can have things sent out via fax out from my webhosting service .
{shameless plug}[http://www.efgroup.net/faxaway.html]
[Comments]
XRMS is still in beta release as of this date/time stamp - but for what I'm
doing, I'm of the opinion that it's stable enough .
One cool thing about XRMS is that its NOT database dependent. It can use
any other database that uses the adodb data connector
[http://php.weblogs.com/adodb/ ],
[and here's the current list:
MySQL, PostgreSQL, Interbase, Informix, Oracle, MS SQL 7, Foxpro, Access,
ADO, SAP DB, SQLite, Sybase, DB2 and generic ODBC]
so if I really wanted to tweak this baby for VFP back end data store ? I
think I could.. But no time to play this month or the next. I smell some
movement for XRMS with SAP DB, as there are a lot of SAP DB installations
out there.
