>>>Microsoft has very accurate data on what percentage of VFP developers obtained MSDN Subscriptions in order to obtain VFP 8.0. It appears you may only be impacting yourself by not obtaining MSDN at a discount with all the bundled software, early access to new products, etc.
>>
>>Ken, in the years I have bought MSDN both in my current company and in my previous company I have never been asked by MSDN whether I use VFP. How then does MS know whether an MSDN subscriber uses VFP or not? I took the web based surveys too and they dont ask this either. So just curious...

>Hi Jos,
>I have also never been asked and have always wondered this myself. I highly doubt it and would be really PO'd to find out that they did, but maybe MS has secretly put a "phone home" function that sends usage info when you use VFP or the other stuff in MSDN in order to collect such "accurate" data. Did anyone say spyware? LOL. Not being one to put much stock in conspiracy theories, I currently don't believe this to be the case, though more and more software from MS does this under the guise of anti-piracy, licensing, update and support measures. When my sister bought a new computer with Windows XP home, she could hear it dialing out for updates and other things at all hours of the day and night. Her computer actually used the internet more than she did until I turned most of that crap off.

Hi Elmer. Yeah I dont know where the stats come from so I would be interested to hear Ken's answer. Possibly MS monitor what you download from the MSDN site. I suppose anyone who downloads anything VFP related is a VFP user?
