Normally you would use YaST and just turn on the postgres database - at least this works for 8.2 - 9.0. I'm not to sure about 7.3. But normally you can just follow the boot from /etc/init.d and see what is failing. To the best of my knowledge there are no special scripts for SUSE postgres. You did use the RPM to install - right?

Right now, I'm trying to install Postgresql 4.1 into a Server with Suse 7.3, the installation was fine but when I try to start the daemon it send me an error and the postmaster doesn't start. The default of SuSE 7.3 is Postgresql 7.2.1.
I know that SuSE use some special scripts and variables. Maybe this is the cause but honestly I can´t find the way so, could anybody give me a light in the hole about this?
