I guess, just like with the dotcom boom, people HOPE that THIS TIME IT CAN BE DIFFERENT. It's almost like hoping that, some day, gravity will stop operating.

Quite simple - the business model of gravity can be changed from "own once, own forever" to "buy once, upgrade regularly or lose it"... and we'll all feel so much easier.
