Try this - these steps are on a W2003 server, but should be similar on most;

1) Right click network places --> properties
2) Right click your vpn connection --> properties
3) Click Networking tab
4) Select TCP/IP --> Properties
5) Click Advanced
6) General Tab --> Uncheck - "Use default gateway on remote network"
