Hi Kam,

how much you need an administrator depends on how many users you plan to have. You won't get more than 20 users, if your app is a heavy hitter, even on a dual processor machine, at least without using something like TScale from RTO Software. If you need more, you will end up installing a Citrix Farm (or doing the equivalent in Win2K3). None of it is too difficult once you're learned it (and what I learned was from our Citrix Administrator). But then you might want port 80 access through NFuse, so you don't get killed by firewalls. Or you might want SSL connections to statisfy HIPAA, in which case you will want Secure Access Manager. And pretty soon you need an administrator.

For a single box, the suggestion made to use Win2K3 is a good one; you won't save too much, since you will need to be TS licenses for 2K3, as they are no longer included with the client OS.

Overall, though, thin client with either TS or Citrix is a great way to save on administrative costs: install the EXE once, and you're done. Frankly, in any organization with more than 8 or 10 machines, it becomes cost-effective to put everyone on TS or Citrix, assuming Windows applications are required.

hth,

Hank Fay
