Of course, turn the printer off then on again before you do this to make sure you're at the printer default.
Another thing you could check, or try to work with, is the specific settings for the Generic/Text Only driver on the Printer Commands (and possibly, Font Selection) pages. You might be able to put reset/default control sequences in the appropriate place(s).
