We do not choose one language instead of other. We work with both.
There are application which could be done better with VFP and in the same moment there are application which is more suitable to be done with C#/VB.Net.
There are also other points - requirements of the customers, interoperability, available third party components, etc.
VB is more popular and more easy to learn in difference of VFP which like a lot of years experience and good mentor to teach you in relational database modeling.
