If tables are open, transactions being written or index bein created or similar actions, a DBF (and/or DBC) coul dbecome corrupted.

The best thing to do is to avoid corruption in the first place.
  • Find out why does your PC hang and try to fix the problem.
  • Have a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) in every workstation in a network, plus the server(s) plus huibs, firewalls, etc. They are cheap compared with the potential loss of data.
  • Train your users to exit the program properly.
  • Make frequent Backups.

If tables are corrupted, there are tools on the market that can fix most corruptions (like garbled file headers for example). In any case frequent backups are a must.
