Yes I see that. The first link had the following statement:

Unlike the Read-only attribute for a file, the Read-only attribute for a folder is typically ignored by Windows, Windows components and accessories, and other programs.

The only thing that he knew that had changed was that Windows updates and security patches were being downloaded almost daily lately. Upon checking, he said that the Folders where the problem was happening was read only when trying to uncheck it, it did seem to reset it, but on rechecking the read only attribute was still set and all files in the folder were read only. I checked on my XP Pro box and notice that the read only check box on all folders on my XP box also appeared to be read only and could not be changed. I assumed that this was something that recently happened since I did not set them as readonly and may be causing the problem being seen.

The read only check box for folders is colored rather than checked indicating an indeterminate state and guess I had never noticed this before. I suspect that when trying to change the readonly attribute at the folder level he may have inadvertantly applied read only to all files in the folder causing further problems. It appears that this was probably a sharing or permission issue that was compounded by confusion over the Read Only checkbox's indeterminate state and inadvertantly setting all files to read only. I will investigate further, but since my phone has not been ringing continuously, this is not a problem that others are experiencing since the application creates, uses and removes directories and files probably hundreds of times a day.
