Nick N. has done some amazing things with VFP and Winsoc. It seems that route would require the back end dbf record to be dissassembled to text and the reassembled to a useable format when it arrived at the client. That wouldn't be too painful.

Nicks VFP MTDLL COM is a realtime "chat" server. I heard instanciation (Canada to San Francisco) was about 45 seconds - but after that the data really flies.

You could do a CGI data dis/re-assembly to your DBF. You would not really need to display a page, just use the CGI (maybe MTDLLL) to run a process and return a string.
