The PostgreSQL Dev Team looks at Oracle as a reference, and the result is that PG is often outperforming it, in speed and in functionality. Don't forget that PG is an Object RDBMS, meaning for example that you can create a table inheriting its structure from another table and specifying the diffs only. Its feature set is impressive, worth a look at
