Yes. We talked a lot about it. The conclusion is that only gold is keeping its value because the money originates in gold. Anything else that is deemed valuable has only psychological value. So it doesn't matter whether we two believe in it, it's whether the market believes.

Still, saving your family fortune in jewelry is not a smart move, in our opinion. The moment you want to sell it, it starts losing value, simply because you want to sell. If you're selling your jewels, you're basically saying "I'm screwed, I need money desperately", and everyone will try to cut your price in half. It's the same with real estate, art etc... maybe some surreal estate would behave differently :).
