The story I heard at the time through various industry sources was that Wrox went under because the parent company had financial problems. Whether or not those problems were due to Wrox books expenses, I have no idea, but the impression I got at the time was that they were a casualty of other problems at the parent company.

Whil may have had actual data from book returns or book publisher inside information that tells a different story.
