It did feel good to see my findings confirmed - or else I'd live in eternal fear that my fix wasn't a real fix, and that I'll dream of dancing labels returning to haunt me in years to come. Thanks for putting my mind at ease - along with the BSOD, it looked like a wrong way to start the week.

Don't you hate that sort of problem, when it starts behaving eratically with no apparent reason? And when the fix doesn't seem to make much more sense either? May not apply here, because we know when Autosize can make a label turn nasty, but we've seen things like this before. You know, at the first glance I thought this was a "my form shrinks by 4px each time I save it" reincarnated. That one was surely nasty, and I don't remember if there was any fix, short of setting the form's size in its .init().
