IMO, the time lag to update the report writer had to do with several things. The need to support COM better and add ADO and XML support. These took developer time away from things like a new report writer. Also, the management of the team has changed in that time. Perhaps some team management felt other areas were more important.

As was stated in other posts, there will still be areas where Crystal will be a better choice and some where VFP reports will be better. However, I would not mix the two in a single application as the preview behaves differently and two different previews could confuse users.
