Turn the tree upside down...
First thing in the tree is .com
Next is thiswebsite
The owner of thiswebsite can make any third level domain (TLD) he wants...
So they can have
software.thiswebsite.com
sales.thiswebsite.com
etc.thiswebsite.com
whatever.thiswebsite.com
The TLD is owned by thiswebsite - so it is not registered with a domain registry service - the thiswebsite webserver redirects appropriately. You look up .com registry services, then find thiswebsite - that points you to the server where thiswebsite is. Then the thiswebsite server directs you from there to the TLD.
>Sometimes you go to a site, say,
www.thiswebsite.com. You are wondering around the site and you go into the software section of the site. All the sudden the url reads
www.software.thiswebsite.com. Is this another registered domain or is it some trick with IIS??
