It could be a "workaround" for some bug in VFP. In such a case though the author should have noted so.

Also, if there's other code with what you showed, it may be that the author has a reason to have the default code run NOW rather than at the end.

Finally, as CraigB noted, if this is a subclass then the author wishes to have the code in the parent class run. THIS code would prevent that from happening normally but the DOFEFAULT overrides that so that it does execute.
