The Universal Thread Navigator installs itself on Windows and provide the ability to work with messages only by downloading everything locally, reply to a lot of messages and upload in batch. Basically, you download a bunch of messages locally, could work offline, and connect to upload and recheck for new messages. It's a very powerful tool with a very intuitive interface. But, it's for messages only. Now, that the messages area is pretty much stable as far as new features are concerned, we would be able to synchronize most of it with the UTNav so it'd be easier for us to maintain it.

It is for these reasons that "in principle", I prefer NNTP over WWW for discussion groups - except that the UT offers better features (and the adequate people!) than NNTP.

>>To add to Alex's reply: The NNTP protocol is older than e-mail or the www. The system is also known as "Usenet". Scores of thousands of groups exist, in the most diverse topics.

>Now that you use the word "Usenet", I know that I have used news groups. But, I will respectfully disagree with you, I like UT much better, both interface and the people.

I think we agree on liking the UT; it is just that I like the idea of connecting off-line, reducing traffic (and connection time, if you use dial-up) by seeing only message headers and marking those that interest you, to download the entire message (or thread), etc.
