Thanks for the tips and advice you have provided. Awhile a go, I got the Kalen Delaney "Inside SQL server" book. But, this was way too hard-core to use to just get up and running. The books I looked at for T-SQL were like 2000 pages (well, ok, maybe not that many but "door stoppers" anyway), eg., Robert Vieira. I would struggle to find the time to read such a large volume particularly when they didn't seem to give much idea about general administration.

I will check out the white paper you have referred to.
