Hi,
The article explained someone's experiences with corruption in VFP5 or 6. He had spent months researching the problem and had worked with several people at Microsoft trying to fix the problem, but no fix, only a work around as mentioned, which dropped the corruption by 99%. The article was written about 2 Years ago.

The only thing I can add is that if the Database stops, as it occasionally does, it is just a matter of clearing the dummy field & reindexing. From the research I did, it has something to do with the DELETED character and NULL, but I didn't followup as the workaround fixed most of the problems, and we were very busy at the time. Also I don't know whether it has been fixed in later versions, a reply from Microsoft would be nice.
