For me I don't really care about titles. For me it's show me the money and you can keep your title.

Where I work at now here's how we have some titles setup. The person in charge of a department is called the Program Manager for programming and Sales Manager for sales. The main person who is in charge of developing our application is called the "Product Development Manager", which for some companies is the same as the "Program Manager", the rest of the programmers are called "Software Engineers". For me if I was in your shoes I would pick the title that looked best on my resume. So I would try for somthing like "Product Development Manager" or "VP of Research and Development". But you are correct that title usally don't mean a whole lot.
