As a result of this conversation, I have just done a brief review of the relevant chapter of my physics book.
It is strange, indeed, that velocity should affect mass, time, and length. But there is something stranger still: that the principle of relativity is still valid.
If you stay on Earth and I go with a certain percentage of the speed of light in a vacuum, your measurements will indicate that time moves slower for me. If I do the same measurements, it will be the other way round: from my point of view,
your time (clocks, other physical and biological processes) will advance slower. And according to the Principle of Relativity (which is an integral part of the Theory of Relativity), there is no way to detect which position is "correct".
