How are you determining that the FormLoad event isn't firing?

I'm guessing that you probably don't have your Load eventhandler set up correctly. I don't know the VB syntax for this (it's a bit different than C#'s I seem to remember and the converters don't do it right), so try looking up EventHandlers in the help to see how to set these up in VB.
