It sounds like that, but it is not quite - the dbf data is just one of the many balls that are in the air. As long as it is a procedural thing there will be omissions and mistakes.
I didn't know, but it seems that the default file association under XP for dbf is Excel!?? Yesterday, I found one person in one of our departments exporting some data to a dbf (from a VFP app) in order to send it to one of our contractors. She wanted to see the data before sending, so she opened the explorer and double clicked on the dbf, and got all kind of messages from Excel (the file actually had a fpt too). She admited she didn't know what she was doing, but I think that having Excel asociated with dbf by default is dangerous.
If all settings that you said were good for VFP were the default when installing XP, then chances they were correct were bigger, I think...
