Yep, matter of opinion -- or at least this has to be tuned for different uses.

For at least one of my apps, it's pretty much required to see the DOS window.They want to see the compiler doing its thing, these are engineers and there's a comfort level associated with watching the run.

For other scenarios, I actually kind of like the idea of displaying feedback from the process and I don't see any reason to hide the process...

But you're right, especially since cscript can just do a msgbox at the end, it's not always necessary and it's not appropriate for all types of users.
