as far as i know the data type cannot be changed once it is set, i had to delete a field once or twice and then add in the new one. it didn't happen too often and just in case of customer additions i also created a few extra fields just in case.
the error i am not to familiar with. the settings i use are...
importfromcsv
source: "my documents\impstock"
Destination: stock
separator: __semicolon (i used this setting on the export)
quotation mark: __double quotation (i used this setting on the export)
DateTimeFormat: __DefaultDateTimeFormat
FieldName: __No

These are the same as those i used for the export with the exception of the Sourcecsv and Destination. Try exporting a file and importing the same file first and then build on it from there. if you still cannot get it working send me the files and i will take a look at it.
