You may very well have to look for alternatives, since, AFAIK, there are no plans to port VFP to Linux - and whether we like it or not, the World seems to be gradually changing to Linux.
Delphi looks like a decent programming environment; there is a version (called Kylix) for Linux.
Java runs on many platforms. Coding in Java is more work, but some tools, like JBuilder (also from Borland) can assist you here.
I don't know either of these tools very well, for now, but both look like interesting options.
I would discard .NET - I see no reason to switch from one Windows-only system to another Windows-only system.
