I have tried that - but these tables belng to a database. When I try to open a table using the UNC file name I get this sort of message (Here I had typed USE \\shiva\custdata\hfish\pro65\ardata\arcust01.dbf):

q:\hfish\pro65\prodata.dbc: Cannot link table "\\.. \arcust01.dbf" to this database: duplicate or missing fields. Would you like to try to locate the owning database or delete the link (and free this table)?

SO I am stuck, needing the embedded path information. I cannot free these tables from the database or even alter the database (if possible) to ensure that UNC paths are used becase it belongs to an Accpac Pro 6.5 application, and the way that application works requires the drive letters. ( will however experiment with this).
