Well, in the looking glass demo, there is not much actual productivity features, neither, although the idea is beyyond what was shown.

I looked at it, but the sound was terrible, at least the QuickTime version I downloaded.

As Craig mentioned, this is in fact something simmilar to what the Avalon technology does in Longhorn. I haven't see any demo like this, and can't say who did it first (I really don't care). But a very interesting development in User Interfaces is coming from the now usual powerful GPUs.

What Avalon does is to render all controls using the same technology as DirectX in any Windows game. This allows them to do 3D rotation and folding like the ones showed on the demo.

The fact that everyone is working on this will only boost research trough competition. I hope we start getting some final products (like version 3.0, SP 8 releases <s>) we can actually use.
