At first guess it sounds like you need more horsepower on the server box. The gradual degredation might be solveable with some more RAM and that could be done in the existing box. Does the box support additional CPUs? How many users?

I have used the Index tuning wizard. The SQL server just seems to hang when many people are using it. If we reebot and start again it works then after about an hour it goes slow and stops responding. This happens especially when there are many writes to the Server. When not many people are using it the same queries execute without a problem and the performance is very good. Could there be a Limit on number of users on SQL Server ? how can we improve multi user performance
