from what I have seen. SQL commands that I needed to tune in VFP8 in work without any problems in VFP7.

You will need to test this yourself though. I wouldn't suggest you to do this progressively. You need to get these commands working properly if you want to migrate at all. I took me a couple of days (especially with views) but now they all work fine in both VFP7 and VFP8.
