Jim
Hi
I have a VFP executable which copies all tables every hour to a backup machine. The server does nightly backups
Running a 2.8 gig processor with 1.5 gig of memory - 3 very fast 75 gig drives of which 2 & 3 are dedicated to tables.
No raid or striping
We put this system in about 4 weeks ago because the previous system (running VFP6 by the way) kept slowing down - the main reason was the number of deleted items on the main databases
The company in question is an international courier company shipping anywhere between 3-20,000 packages a week. Deletions can be 1000 per week
Pack and reindex on the old server took about 15-20 mins - on the new server about 3-4 mins
I know that this approach may cause raised eyebrows but it works
I have access to every screen in each of the 8 installations I control (mainly courier companies) - I do this by accessing one workstation via gotomypc then using VNC to hop to other workstations - works very well
Jim - I have a very unconventional way of approaching these probelms - but it works
Your comments would as always be very welcome
