Jim
Just to add a further note - thanks for your response
When I specced the server I partioned disc 1 into 2 drives - 1 for system software and 1 for applications software
I then put my tables on the other 2 discs
I then carried out a number of speed tests on the application and quickly realised that if the most heavily used table sat alone on disc 3 I would get the optimum performance
I now have the unusual situation of having a disc with just 1 table on it - a luxury but the app runs very well
Part of the problem I encounter in these sort of threads is that there are a lot of people (you may well be one - no disrespect intended) who are working as IT gurus for 1 company. I operate as a consultant with 8 installations under my control - they have no dedicated IT staff whatsoever. Therefore my approach has to be very pragmatic as they are in the main 24/7 operations.
The interesting thing for me is that the operational staff understand very well what IT can do for their businesses - the ball park is moving all the time - no sooner have we finished 1 lot of development than we start on new ideas - no time for the finer points of IT - its got to work and fast.
Your comments are much appreciated
Thanks
