I was interested because I have the same problem. I need to get the total byte available to continue writing in the CD-R. I check Microsoft about it and all the documentation suggest that this is COM. When I check my Object browser that service is not available or expose.

According to Microsoft we need to create an object from that class and used to get the information from the CD ROM in order to get the correct amount of byte free.

Anybody know how to create an object from those COM hidden or not expose. I try different option but always get the message that the class need to be registered. If I check the register the class is registered. BTW this is related to XP, previous version of microsoft did not have any functionality with cd burner.

BTW I try GETDISKFREESPACEEX and this object will always report 0 because was not designed for CD.
