>It is a good thing that I am a liberal person as if I was a conservative I would take a more serious approach to this subject.This is nothing new of course. It's been known for years (at least since the '73 oil embargo). But Detroit likes gas guzzlers, V-8s, SUVs, Hummers, you name it.
They are wedded to the internal combustion engine and they have probably been "supported" by the oil companies in no small measure. Any vehicle that gets <15 MPG they love.
Yesterday, the Governor of Alaska proposed a loophole on drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by proposing to drill 3 miles offshore, in areas controlled by the state, not federal. Said, more or less, that in these times when we need oil independence we can get to it by more drilling. Funny he did not mention a word about reducing oil dependence. But I forget, he's from the GOP (Grand Oil Party).
