The configuration of the personal information option about autoreply only affect is you use the Universal Thread Web interface not the listserv.

Here's what indicated in the help.

Do not put a signature, the Universal Thread will automatically add it for you. If you find it difficult to remember each time to tell the new email form to not add the signature then add this line at the beginning of your signature so the system can determine where your signature is starting and remove it from the message. The line consist of putting these characters ----------------------------- on top of your signature. The system will check for 10 dashes in a row in the message. You may put more to make the look you want but be sure to have at least 10 dashes at the beginning of the line. Below, is a sample of what a signature will look when the server process a message to be distributed on the listserv.

It seems that most of what you said is related to the type of mailer being used which we don't control.
