I'd call that a malapropism (of what I said), David.
What I did say was that the news has long been reporting the dismal jobs situation, even up to and including the day that new figures were announced.
It strikes me as queer that 'news' of increased job counts - let's allow that they DID happen - wouldn't have been noticed/reported AS THEY WERE HAPPENING (i.e. as companies were actually hiring people).
Unemployment has been a story for months now. I'd have thought that any dents would have been the subject of BIG NEWS.
It's akin, in my eyes, to peace breaking out all over Iraq but reportes saying nothing and not noticing until the military announces that peace seems to have broken out.
