Thanks for everybody's help, but I think what this boils down to is this...

...that if I create one document from four different documents, all of which contain separate 'Page X of Y' footers, the final document will (when printed) replace the 'Y' in each of the four sections with the total page count of the document....and I'm trying to retain each separate 'Y' in each of the four sections.

The only way I can see around this is to grab the page count in each of the four docs, and do some selective stripping and pasting.
