You can use a timer which regularly monitors the number of records in the table.

>i have a table shared on a local network. users can add to this table. on each user's local workstation, i want to have an alert whenever a new record is added on the table. i'd like to have an alert like in yahoo mail where when a new mail is received, a mail icon appears on the taskbar right beside the system time and says something like "[description] - [author]" where description and author are fields from the table.
