Why are the simplest and most obvious solutions the ones I always miss? We do allow multiple sessions. This certainly solves the problem, although I think the more 'elegant' solution is having both form and report open in the same main window.

Perhaps I missed this because it requires me to train the users :-)

If you have a true "multi-user" app, it should not be a problem for Users to be running multiple instances of your app which gets around the "modal" type of problems that you are reporting.
