... with one expception: only if grid has focus. If grid hasn't focus, then value is empty.

< rof,l > and < lol >!!!! That much I did manage to figure out for myself. I am pretty literate and since the on-line help says this:

For the Grid control, the Value property is available only when the Grid control has the focus.

I was able to grasp the concept < g >.

But thanks for re-iterating that bit of information for the benefit of any lurkers who happen to be reading this thread....
